This month, we introduce you to the multi-faceted team at Residential Systems Design (RSD) and Integrated Commercial Design (ICD) who have become one of the most successful and regularly busy residential and commerical AMX programmers because of their innovation, attention to detail and commitment to client and customer satisfaction. The team spans both companies, pooling talent and resources to meet their clients' specialized objectives.

Kevin Busza, Director of Sales recently sat down with us to discuss what it takes to keep his clients and end users happy, which has been the cornerstone of his company’s success story. Also provided are images of several user interface designs created by the RSD/ICD team.

What Sets RSD/ICD Apart From the Rest
The RSD/ICD difference is in our process. Even though we are a programming company, we tell our dealer clients that we don’t sell programming; we sell a process for a predictable result. This is a big difference from the stereotypical, one-man-band, “independent programmer”.

The RSD/ICD team has been programming AMX for eight years and was founded by three partners: Bradd Fisher (president), Brett Fisher (CTO), and Kevin Busza (Director of Sales). We started out of Bradd Fisher’s house in Morgantown, PA and today we have offices in Philadelphia, PA; Irvine, CA; Dallas, TX and Sterling, VA. We are able to provide programming services in every major US market and currently program for over 300 dealers nationwide.

Making It Happen
RSD/ICD offers residential and commercial programming, custom touch panel interface design, system documentation and design layout in professional CAD format. We have a diverse and talented team of 30 that come together to deliver a phenomenal product. We have found that creating highly efficient, functional departments has assisted in making us successful.

System design, project management, touch panel design and programming are all executed by staff members who focus exclusively on these areas. This production-line format ensures that projects are completed quickly and painlessly, while at the same time making sure that any customizations can also be easily be made. Leveraging this efficiency also allows us to take extra time to link arms with our dealer clients to go the extra mile. Frequently our dealers are impressed by our “hands on” approach.

"We enjoy offering dealers a worry-free, reliable and most importantly – scalable solution, which allows them to get done, get paid, and get moving to the next project."

We also offer A/V and technology consulting through our sister company, Gluvbox. As a consultant, we are often able to get in on the ground floor, during the earliest phases of the project and once we have designed the system, we then have the opportunity to share leads with the dealers we work with for the sales and installation phases. They in turn will often send future business back our way for projects in need of a good programmer or for more complex programming.

Document It
Our project documentation service has also become very popular for us. As many know, the approach of AV Dealers has changed from only selling brands to selling a completely integrated solution. Together with our dealers, we can take a large scale system and create a professional design layout. This helps communicate the value proposition that dealers are making in the market, plus it is another revenue generating item in the overall job proposal.

Here is an example of a project documentation file we would present to the client. Click to view the full 16-page file.

Many AV companies that don’t specialize in programming, cringe at the thought of programming a project, which can affect the project’s overall success. Typically this is because they are frustrated with having to do all or part of the programming with limited skills and training or because of a bad experience with outsourcing their programming. We enjoy offering dealers a worry-free, reliable and most importantly – scalable solution, which allows them to get done, get paid, and get moving to the next project.

The entire team at RSD/ICD are proud to be AMX VIPs. The VIP program gives authorized dealers peace of mind when searching for a qualified, capable programming partner as each VIP has its own approach and distinct value proposition. I recommend that each dealer interview one or two VIPs before you make a decision, and of course I think every dealer should consider Residential Systems Design or Integrated Commercial Design.
