Tips From The Trainer:

The Power of Dynamic Images
by Ken Brown, Technical Trainer

One of the great capabilities of Internet-connected G4 Modero Touch Panels is the ability to show dynamic images. Dynamic images are images that exist on an HTTP server or FTP server, external to the panel. You can place images directly from the server to your panel in a few easy steps using Touch Panel Design 4 (TPD4). All image files that TPD4 supports, as well as motion jpeg files, have the ability to be displayed as a dynamic image.

This saves time for the UI designer and the programmer, potentially avoiding creation of various icons and code. It also can be a nice graphical addition to a panel, grabbing real time information, with specifics on how often you want to refresh the image file from the server.

For example, you can grab an image that shows the traffic conditions of a stretch of highway, saved as a .jpeg file, and refreshed by the Web site every 30 seconds. Whenever the Web site refreshes the image, it would then be updated on the panel itself.

You can learn more about TPDesign4 at: http://www.amx.com/products/TPDesign.asp as well as find a detailed list of instructions on how to insert a dynamic image by reading through the TPDesign4 Reference Guide PDF.

*Please note:
Always check to see if the material you are copying from the HTTP or FTP server is copyrighted. If it is copyrighted, you still might be able to use the image under the entity’s “use of content” guidelines.
