Press Release (pdf)
ORLANDO, Fla. – June 7, 2006 – Today at InfoComm 2006, AMX®, a worldwide leader in advanced control system technology, celebrated several significant milestones for its Dynamic Device Discovery initiative. The company announced that six equipment manufacturers are now shipping devices that embed AMX’s Dynamic Device Discovery Protocol (DDDP) and that nine more equipment manufacturers have agreed to include the AMX technology in current and future products. AMX is exhibiting at the show, being held in Orlando June 7 – 9, in booth 3100.
By embedding DDDP in products from other equipment manufacturers, the AMX control code becomes a common framework for standard solution designs. For users, this means that once the AMX control system is programmed, any device with DDDP can be easily swapped out with any other device of the same type that also embeds the technology – simple plug and play with no additional programming required.
Six manufacturers are now shipping products with embedded DDDP – KnoxVideo Technologies, Lectrosonics, Inc., Tandberg, Vaux Electronics, Inc., WeatherHawk and WolfVision Inc. AMX expects many more partners to release products including the technology in the coming months.
“Since unveiling our Dynamic Device Discovery initiative at InfoComm last year, the program has swelled from a core group of 10 manufacturer partners to more than 50,” said Rashid Skaf, AMX president and CEO. “AMX and its partners have joined together to provide seamless interoperability between all of our products.”
As part of today’s news, AMX disclosed the names of its newest DDDP partners. These companies include 3M, beyerdynamic, Global Caché, NEC Solutions America’s Plasma Division, Panasonic Projector Systems Company, Pioneer Industrial Displays, Pioneer Receivers, projectiondesign and Shure Incorporated.
AMX’s DDDP initiative, recently released VisualArchitect software, and new System Design Library (SDL), which was also announced today, are key components of a multi-tiered, corporate-wide initiative to make AMX control system design and integration easier for AMX dealers.
“Every day, system programmers are challenged to make highly complicated systems easy for their customers to use, which can be a very time consuming process,” added Skaf. “We developed DDDP, VisualArchitect and SDL to enable our dealers to more quickly design and program AMX systems that will meet, if not exceed, their customers’ expectations. AMX is providing a variety of tools that will enable users to have an integrated experience in any setting in which an AMX control system is deployed.”
About Dynamic Device Discovery
Dynamic Device Discovery is part of AMX’s Duet™ platform, which combines the proven reliability and power of NetLinx® with the extensive capabilities of the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) platform. When integrating a serial or IP device from a manufacturer embedding the Dynamic Device Discovery Protocol (DDDP), Duet recognizes the device and loads the appropriate Duet module, which automatically installs the new device. AMX’s NetLinx Master can then find and install the Duet device module either from a library on the master, from AMX’s Web site, or from the manufacturer’s Web site. Duet also allows for device swapping so that programming changes are not required when devices with DDDP are removed or replaced – a huge benefit for end users. The Duet platform is an extension AMX’s InConcert® manufacturer partner program, which was developed to ensure seamless communication between partners’ devices and the AMX control system.
