The Franklin-Springboro Public Library, located in Springboro, Ohio, serves a variety of community needs, offering educational, informational, intellectual, and recreational resources to the Franklin, Springboro, Franklin Township, Carlisle, and Clearcreek Township areas. In 2023, the library’s Springboro branch underwent a significant renovation to update its technology infrastructure and introduce new conference and meeting spaces. To better serve the growing needs of the community, the library introduced a medium-sized conference room and a large meeting room. Chad Morris, the library’s Technology Coordinator, took on the task of selecting and installing a capable AV system to support bring-your-own-device (BYOD) capabilities for staff and patrons.
Chad Morris carefully evaluated several AV systems before selecting the AMX Jetpack 3×1 switching, transport, and control solution, a highly affordable and user-friendly system perfect for small-to-medium-sized meeting spaces. Instead of hiring an integrator, Morris opted to self-install an entire HARMAN Professional AV system, consisting of JBL Professional speakers and centered around the AMX Jetpack solution. This decision allowed him to save $15,000 in installation costs.
The AMX Jetpack JPK-1300 is an all-in-one kit that combines 4K60 4:2:0 HDMI and USB-C video switching, distance transport, room control, wallplate accessibility, and audio amplification. It requires zero programming and offers simple, intuitive control via panel buttons, RS-232, Telnet, SSH, a Web GUI, or the Jetpack Manager application. The system includes a three-input switching wallplate transmitter, a six-button keypad with volume control, and a multi-function receiver with built-in amplifier, making it ideal for classroom and meeting space applications.
Morris was impressed by the simplicity and reliability of the Jetpack system, noting how easy it was to install and use. “The response to the Jetpack has been awesome; it works really well and is easy to use,” said Morris. “Staff and patrons love that you just plug it in and it works. No configuring. Just turn it on. Its simplicity is what makes it great.”
H3. The Impact
The AMX Jetpack solution provided the Franklin-Springboro Public Library with an affordable, high-end AV system that delivers exceptional performance for both staff and patrons. By self-installing the system, Morris was able to stay within budget while equipping the library’s meeting spaces with cutting-edge technology that enhances user experiences. The system’s ease of use, combined with its robust functionality, ensures that the library can continue to offer top-of-the-line services without straining taxpayer resources.
Morris expressed his satisfaction with the overall project, praising the smooth installation process and the support provided by AMX engineers. “This project was surprisingly trouble-free,” Morris said. “As someone with 16 years of IT experience but no AV integration background, I found the Jetpack system straightforward to install. If I can do it myself, pretty much anybody can.”
The library has received positive feedback from both staff and patrons, and Morris feels confident that the system will continue to meet the library’s needs for years to come. “The Jetpack is the perfect solution for libraries like ours that need to deliver cutting-edge technology without breaking the bank,” Morris concluded. “It allows us to provide the public with high-quality AV solutions while staying fiscally conservative.”
